Cat Registration

As you know, the RSPCA and other animal welfare organisations and interested parties in Queensland prepared detailed submissions when the Government called for feedback in regard to proposed changes to Cat and Dog legislation. By and large these were ignored which was disappointing to say the least. Everyone agreed that compulsory de-sexing at point of sale was a must for all but registered breeders. While we accept that cat registration is a very small step in the right direction (simply because it will help us reunite lost animals and their owners), we sadly don’t believe that it will have any major effect on the tsunami of kittens that arrive on our doorstep every cat breeding season. What we don’t want to see is cat registration simply become a fundraising exercise for local government. It’s important that there are substantial incentives, (even to extent of waiving the registration fee altogether), for owners who have their cats de-sexed and micro-chipped. Rest assured we do understand your concerns with the legislation. Once again it appears that the majority of people who do the right thing suffer because of idiocy of the minority.
