Save a Kitten from Liquidation Sale

This year around 13,000 cats and kittens will be put to sleep because there are not enough homes for them to go to. The harsh reality is that these animals are born to die because of irresponsible pet owners who still refuse to desex their pets. Not only an unnecessary waste of innocent life, it takes an immense toll on the staff and volunteers at RSPCA Qld. In response to this tragedy the “Save a Kitten from Liquidation” campaign was developed in 2008 to help educate the community about cat overpopulation, to encourage the community to adopt from the RSPCA, and to ultimately help save lives!

There are many ways you can help RSPCA Qld in their quest to save lives. If you are looking for a furry addition to your family please consider adopting a pet from the RSPCA as opposed to purchasing one from a breeder or pet shop. If you have the time, why not consider becoming a foster parent and help care for animals prior to adoption, or if you would like to help, but on a more infrequent basis, why not volunteer at your local RSPCA Qld adoption centre?

For more information on how you can help please see below.

Become a foster parent or volunteer

Foster parents are desperately needed by RSPCA Qld during kitten session. Foster parents provide temporary homes for animals that may not be ready to go to new permanent homes for a variety of reasons. Anyone over the age of eighteen may become a foster parent, provided they can provide the following:

  • A secure environment for containing the animal
  • Time to spend with your foster animals
  • Access to transport

Volunteers are also desperately needed to volunteer offsite at a number of locations throughout South East Queensland. Off-site volunteers help find appropriate and loving new homes for kittens and sometimes guinea pigs. Anyone over the age of eighteen may be eligible to volunteer provided they fit the selection criteria.

Full training will be provided. If you are interested in becoming an RSPCA Qld foster parent or an adoption officer volunteer please click here for more information and view our list of volunteering and/or foster opportunities.

Adopt an animal from RSPCA Qld

Each year, RSPCA Queensland refuges receive more than 42,000 animals. Approximately 35,000 of these are ‘companion animals’ (dogs, cats, kittens and puppies). Despite our best efforts, sadly, many of these animals never go to a new home.

If you are 100% sure you are ready to take on the emotional and financial responsibility and commitment of a new pet, please consider adopting from one of RSPCA Qld’s nine shelters. Contrary to popular belief, the animals you see in the adoption pens will stay at the shelter until he or she finds a new home.

At RSPCA Qld, all animals available for adoption are desexed, microchipped, vaccinated, (first vaccination at least), wormed, flea treated, temperament tested health checked, come with a free bag of Hills Science Diet food and 30 days free pet insurance - services that in total cost almost double the adoption price of an RSPCA animal. For a full list of animals that are available for adoption now please click here.

Desex your pet

RSPCA Qld is hoping that the Government will make desexing at point of sale compulsory. In an ideal world you would expect cat owners to be responsible, but the irresponsibility of the minority means tough regulations are a must. Donate

Funds are desperately needed to help RSPCA Qld continue to provide care for the many thousands of animals that pass through our gates each year. RSPCA Qld is a non-government charity; we have an annual operational budget of over $23 million and receive less than one percent in recurrent government funding.
