Typically, echidnas don’t stay in one place for more than 24 hours, so if they’re lingering they could be sick or injured. One echidna had been making himself at home in someone’s backyard for three days! So our RSPCA Animal Ambulance team came to the rescue to help this little guy get some medical attention.

He put up a fight nestled in his new found bunker, but with a few of our Rescue Officer’s tricks, he was able to be successfully removed for a vet check.
On the way back to the RSPCA Wildlife Hospital, the rescue team spotted another echidna heading towards the road and were able to move him to a safer spot. Echidnas are definitely out and about, so keep an eye on our spiky friends!
Once given the all clear at the Wildlife Hospital, the echidna was released back into the wild, near where he was originally found.
