RSPCA pets Effie and Scoobie keeping safe indoors
Losing a pet can be stressful for any pet owner and with storms predicted across parts of Queensland, RSPCA Queensland is reminding owners to ensure their pets have identification.
“After every storm we receive a spike in the number of lost and found pet reports. Some animals are traumatised from the ordeal and some don’t have identification,” said RSPCA spokesperson Emma Lagoon.
“It’s always a good idea to ensure that your pet is microchipped and those details are up to date,” Ms Lagoon said.
At least 30% of pets that come into the RSPCA are microchipped but that chip is not registered.
The easiest way for pet owners to check if their pet’s microchip is registered is to visit www.petaddress.com.au and enter their animal’s microchip number.
Some pets can sense a storm coming long before humans can, and the noise can cause them to try to escape from areas they normally wouldn’t think of leaving.
As Queensland enters its storm season, RSPCA Chief Veterinary Officer Dr Anne Chester advises, “Animals are more likely to cope with a storm if they are left in an environment where they feel comfortable.”

• Register your pet with RSPCA Qld’s Lost and Found Service online or call 1300 363 736
• Notify your local Council
• Thoroughly search your property
• Notify neighbours and call out to your pet in your area
• Keep searching! Pets have been known to turn up months after going missing
