A sticky situation for Sappy

Animals Rescue Wildlife Posted Jun 8, 2021
It's not uncommon to receive calls about injured wildlife, so when a call came in about a kangaroo that had something sticking out of its hind leg, Rescue Officers Amy and Dani knew they would need to act swiftly.
Dani and Amy spotted the roo and could see she was clearly stressed and uncomfortable, she kept licking and trying to get something off her leg. The team darted her so she could have a peaceful nap whilst they investigated the sticky situation.

Both Dani and Amy found that this poor kangaroo actually had a build-up of tree sap, sticks and bark stuck to her fur. It was very close to her skin and required sharp scissors and an electric razor to remove all of the mess. It’s only fitting that her rescuers called her Sappy.

Thankfully Sappy didn’t have any serious injuries and she was able to wake up and go about her business, sap and stick-free!

Our Animal Ambulance team love kangaroo jobs that have a happy ending. Even though Sappy may be sporting a bald patch now, she is back to living her best life in the wild.
