Shelter Reopening Update
Work is currently underway to repair the damage to our RSPCA Cairns Animal Care Campus from the flooding. The shelter will be closed from Friday 23rd February until the repairs are complete. Unfortunately, we aren't able to offer some of our usual services during this time.

Our Cattery and Dog Boarding Kennels will also be closed while the repairs are taking place. Any current bookings have been contacted already and we will not be taking any new bookings at this stage.

We are unfortunately unable to accept any pet surrenders due to the limited space while repairs are made to our building. Should you be facing the difficult decision of needing to surrender your pet, please contact your local animal rescues or council.

The RSPCA Cairns Animal Care Centre rescues and re-homes animals from Far North Queensland. Animals come to the shelter from as far away at Townsville, Torres Strait, Weipa and Cooktown, and are rehomed to Cairns and surrounds.

In addition to adoptions we also offer boarding facilities for dogs and cats.
Our boarding facilities are ideally located just 10 minutes drive from the Cairns international airport, and operate 7 days per week for just $30 per dog, per weeknight (any size) incl. food, bedding and exercise. Cat boarding costs $25 per weeknight for a standard cat condo and $30 per weeknight for the deluxe cat condo incl. food, bedding and exercise. There is a surcharge for public holidays and weekends of $10 for dogs and deluxe cat condos, and $5 for the standard cat condos. Check out of pets is 12 Noon or additional charges apply. Check in is between 12pm and 4pm Monday - Saturday, and 12pm - 2pm on Sunday. No refunds on early checkouts or transfer and animals must be up to date with vaccinations (no exceptions). All peak periods Christmas/ New Year, Easter, school holidays to be paid in full at time of booking and minimum boarding periods apply. All other times a $30 non refundable deposit is required to secure the booking. See our full boarding facilities terms and conditions.
