The ‘Make your Mark’ performance, reward and recognition program is still going strong since launching across Queensland in July 2013 with over 70,000 completed commitments. The program connects our people to our mission and strategic plan via a centralised ‘commitments catalogue,’ and recognizes the valuable contributions our people make daily in pursuit of animal outcomes.

Here is what one of our valued staff members had to say about their participation in the Make Your Mark program.

Samantha Robson, RSPCA Gold Coast Branch

What do you most enjoy about working at the RSPCA?

Since starting as the Events and Community Development Officer in early March 2014, I have to say that I have never worked in a company where the staff are so passionate about the cause. It is infectious to be able to work alongside these people and I certainly feel proud to be a part of it.

I live and breathe organising and running events and so when I was given the opportunity to do this for the RSPCA I was over the moon. I love that I am able to organise and run our events throughout the year promoting our different campaigns in exciting fun ways, whilst raising money for all creatures great and small. During these events I am able to work with some wonderful members of the community whether they are exhibitors, entertainers, RSPCA ambassadors, media or the volunteers who donate countless hours. Knowing that I have contributed to the education of children and adults about the RSPCA through these events is truly rewarding.

Every day is different and I am learning new things about animals all the time.

Why do you participate in the MYM program?

The MYM program was introduced to the Gold Coast branch earlier this year. I was really excited to be a part of such an proactive program which rewards you for going above and beyond for the animals. It is so great to be able to reward other staff for their help and achievements as well as being rewarded for my own.

What’s your favourite aspect of the MYM program?

My favourite aspect of the MYM program is that I am able to give out instant paws to my work colleagues who go above and beyond. I always thank my colleagues for their help with my events however it is so great that I can submit an instant paw and that everyone within the program and sees the outstanding work they have done.

Would you still contribute as much as you do regardless of the MYM program? Yes of course, before this program was introduced to the Gold Coast I was already carrying out commitments within my role at the RSPCA which helped the animals and also going above and beyond when I was able to.

Alana Eising, Customer Service – RSPCA Qld

How long have you been working at the RSPCA and what is your role within the organisation?

I’ve been working at RSPCA now for almost two years in the customer service team. I started out as a Call Centre Operator, and am now a Support team member, helping with questions, training new team members and volunteers, and any other odd jobs.

Why do you participate in the MYM program?

Because it’s important to recognise that this is a difficult job we all do, and most of us put in a lot of extra time and effort that goes above and beyond what’s specifically in our job descriptions. MYM isn’t just so that my manager and peers can see all of the good things I’m doing—it’s so that I can see and document it for myself, too.

What’s your favourite aspect of the MYM program?

I love the Instant Paws—it’s a great way to give someone a little bit of recognition. It’s also good to be able to take a break and read through all of the positive messages and expressions of gratitude that other people have posted. Especially across departments—after all, we’re all one big team.

Would you still contribute as much as you do regardless of the MYM program?

I would like to say ‘of course’, but there are so many different opportunities that I wasn’t aware existed before MYM. Like collecting Paw Boxes, or setting up your local dog park with a toy bin—what a great idea! What do you most enjoy about working at the RSPCA?

I like to feel that I’m making a difference. There are never any easy days, but the days where I match a lost dog, or read a story about our vet team’s amazing work, are the days that I feel it is worth it. Also, being able to cuddle things from kittens to bearded dragons is a great bonus!
