Making a difference, one volunteer at a time

Animal Welfare Volunteering Posted May 22, 2024
Our 2,100 volunteers have given a combined 14 years of their time in 2024.

As National Volunteer Week commences, we want to shine a spotlight on the thousands of selfless people across Queensland who devote their time to the betterment of animals in need.

The assistance they provide us is invaluable and we cannot thank them enough on behalf of all creatures great and small.

The incredible impact of our tireless volunteers

In 2024 alone, our amazing volunteers have dedicated an astounding 123,119 hours thus far. That is the equivalent of 5,130 days (14 years).

You can be the change

Volunteer Recruitment Coordinator Brooke McInulty said people can join us in making a difference for the animals in our community.

"Your time, compassion, and dedication can change lives. Volunteer with RSPCA QLD and be the voice for those who cannot speak for themselves. Together we change lives," Ms McIunulty said.

Five roles which we hope to fill as soon as possible are as follows:

Op Shop Assistants

Animal Care Assistants

Hear from two dedicated volunteers

Amy Kilgour has 9 years' experience volunteering with us and says she loves her role because she can help all the abused and neglected animals that come into care.

“I have been doing this since I was 16 and I just want all the animals to feel safe and loved, no matter what breed or type of animal they are. Every animal deserves a second chance,” says Ms Kilgour.

“I think that once an animal is welcomed into your family and they feel the love you can give them and the trust you put in them, they’ll be your new best friend.”

RSPCA Queensland’s Townsville-based Volunteer Driver and Op Shop Assistant Avril Plath said volunteering was all about the animals.

“While volunteering with RSPCA you will have the opportunity to meet other like-minded people who are just so passionate about what they do,” says Ms Plath.
